This programme aims to support struggling frontline legal aid providers around the world during the Covid-19 crisis. IBA members have been invited to assist by nominating relevant organisations in their respective jurisdictions.
Our firm nominated Friendship to receive the £10,000 donation for its legal advice and awareness activities towards reducing gender based violence and child’s right abuse in the remote northern river islands of Bangladesh. In the face of a significant increase of such cases induced by the Covid 19 crisis, Friendship’s frontline legal workers, otherwise known as Friendship Paralegals create awareness regarding the penalties for violation of rights among the beneficiaries and establish a safe outlet for victims to report incidents. More details about the program can be found here.
Elvinger Hoss Prussen provides support to Friendship’s Inclusive Citizenship programme since many years. A core element of the programme consists in training paralegals – a majority of which are women - recruited from within the remote communities in which they serve so that they can provide initial legal advice and, whenever required, refer community members to qualified lawyers or public authorities.
Congratulations to Friendship for their continuous efforts and an excellent initiative by the IBA.
