The creation of the firm dates back to September 1964 when Me André Elvinger and Me Jean Hoss established their partnership in Grand-Rue, Luxembourg City. It was the first partnership not to operate as a single family business which at the time was unique. With lawyers concentrating on corporate and tax law, the firm soon focused on clients of the financial sector and in particular investment funds. In 1974, Me Yves Prussen joined the partnership.

The founders of the firm were among the first to foresee the role that Luxembourg was about to play as a leading European financial centre. For decades, the partners of the firm have played an instrumental role in the construction of the legal and regulatory environment which is crucial to the success of the Luxembourg financial sector. In this context, the firm pioneered instruments and legal structures before they were recognised by law and regulations and used on a daily basis in financial transactions.
